Forest Whitaker Joins the Cast of Marvel’s Black Panther
Black Panther may have one of the most stacked dramatic casts assembled in recent memory.
At New York Comic Con it was announced that Academy Award winning actor Forest Whitaker will join the cast of Marvel’s forthcoming film, Black Panther.
According to a report posted by Variety, “Whitaker will play the role of Zuri, an elder stateman in Wakanda.”
Whitaker was not the only cast member added to the film — Daniel Kaluuya (Sicario, Kick Ass 2) and Florence Kasumba. Kasuma will reprise her role from Captain America: Civil War (Ayo), a member of the Dora Mijae. Kaluuya will play Black Panther/T’Challa’s friend W’Kabi.
The film, set for release in spring 2018, will be directed by highly acclaimed director Ryan Coogler (Creed, Frutivale Station). The film stars Chadwick Boseman who donned the Black Panther persona in Captain America: Civil War as well as Oscar winner Lupita N’yongo (Nakia), Michael B. Jordan (Erik Killmonger), The Walking Dead’s Danai Gurira (Okoye), and Winston Duke (Man-Ape/M’Baku). Andy Serkis is currently rumored to make an appearance as his Avengers: Age of Ultron character, Ulysses Klaw.
