Another slow week, but what we lack in quantity we’re sure as hell making up for in quality. Lychgate dropped a phenomenal slow-burner this week, Rotting Christ released a ritualistic new song, and Genocide Pact is living up to its name.
Of course if this isn’t enough metal, you could always check out last week’s or the week before.
Lychgate – “Remembrance”
Lychgate is the type of band whose albums are events. They’re well-written, have very diverse instrumentation, and encapsulate a very reverent form of black metal akin to going to mass. “Remembrance” is the closer from Lychgate‘s coming album The Contagion In Nine Steps, and it’s as much as funeral dirge as you could hope for. I love that the song starts off in a major key and then slowly falls apart as time goes on.
The Contagion In Nine Steps is out March 30.
Rotting Christ – “I Will Not Serve”
Everything Rotting Christ does sounds like they’re performing a spell or ritual, like you’re standing in the middle of a circle just waiting for their chants to take effect. “I Will Not Serve” is exactly that and is a pretty solid starting point for anyone unfamiliar with the band.
“I Will Not Serve” is the only new song off Rotting Christ‘s greatest hits, Their Greatest Spells, due out March 30.
Genocide Pact – “Pain Reprisal”
The band is called Genocide Pact and the album is called Order Of Torment. There’s almost no way that you didn’t guess this was down-and-dirty death metal, because again – Genocide Pact. It’s a hateful, trudging type of song that aims to decimate everything in its path and then some, because promising total eradication means they’re going to do it, dammit.
Order Of Torment is out now.
