Tom Cruise took our breath away … twice today.
In a surprise moment, Cruise appeared at San Diego Comic-Con. The action icon appeared, unannounced, at the end of the Terminator: Dark Fate panel at the vaunted Hall H. Cruise was introduced to the audience by Conan O’Brien.

Cruise was their to premiere the trailer for the insanely anticipated follow-up to his all-time classic, Top Gun. While the appearance of Cruise was highly impressive, one could say the trailer for Top Gun: Maverick was just as impressive.
The visuals of the trailer are, well, breathtaking. Let’s face it — why did we all love Top Gun to begin with? Was it the Tom Cruise/Kelly McGillis romance? No. It was the action. The shots in this trailer are jawdropping, and seeing Cruise in the cockpit of a fighter jet taking off is just wildly impressive.
The plot of the film finds Peter “Maverick” Mitchell (Cruise) 34 years after the original film. He is still a fighter pilot, but has never climbed the military ladder due to his trademark reckless nature. However, given his age he finds him as the new flight instructor at Top Gun. At the school he teaches Bradley (Miles Teller), Goose’s son how to become a pilot. The trailer also features: Ed Harris, Jennifer Connelly, and Jon Hamm.
The film is produced, Jerry Bruckheimer, who also produced the original film. The movie is directed by Joseph Kosinski, the man behind Tron: Legacy, Only the Brave (which featured Teller), and the Tom Cruise-starring sci-fi actioneer Oblivion.
