Chris Harrison kicks off The Bachelor Presents: Listen to Your Heart by admitting that this show was basically based off of the movie, A Star is Born. We all remember Jed from Hannah’s season. This is basically Bachelor in Paradise, filled with only Jed’s.
Listen to Your Heart opened up very reminiscent of a season of the Bachelor or Bachelorette where they did a quick review of the contestants. All of the contestants they reviewed were very beautiful. After the reviews, the contestants rolled up to the mansion one at a time and introduced themselves to each other. This aspect of it was more reminiscent of Bachelor in Paradise, where there are both men and women mingling with each other and building relationships.
Meanwhile, something weird had come up during the commercials. There was a commercial spot where they were promoting being a contestant on Clair’s season of the Bachelorette, which was weird because I thought they already had all the contestants picked out for her season. I’m led to believe that due to the current pandemic, there were some changes that had to be made. People potentially dropped out due to scheduling changes or even just pandemic-related events.
At the mansion, the men and women already started pairing off. One of the guys who came on was a complete tool. He tried to kiss one of the girls using the line “I like your lips” and “I think you would like mine” and he leaned in. I was so thankful that the girl did no t humor that kind of line and she just took a sip of her drink.
After mingling, Chris Harrison met up with the contestants and told them how this series would work. Basically, every week there will be date cards, and every week one of the genders would have control and be able to make the selections. This week, there were 12 men and 8 women, so the women would make the decisions on which men they would like to choose, and who would end up going home. There was already drama within this first episode, specifically among two couples:
Rudi was very into Matt, and they spent a lot of time together, but when he got a date card, he led her to believe he would select her, but he ended up selecting a different girl (Mel). But Mel wasn’t feeling their connection, so she paired up with someone else (Gabe) and Matt was forced to go crawling back to Rudi with his tail between his legs. And Rudi ripped him a new one. She called him out for treating her that way and said what he did was wrong. And best of all is that she didn’t select him during the rose ceremony. But Matt is still in the game because he received a rose from Cheyenne.
During the first night, Jamie spent a lot of time with Ryan, and they seemed to have a comfortable vibe, but that same night Jamie got into a hot tub with Trevor and made out with him. But Ryan ended up getting a date card and took Jamie on a solo date, where their bond grew stronger, but the next night she made out with Trevor again. She ended up giving Trevor her rose, but Ryan wasn’t out of the game yet because Rudi had no one to give her rose to, so she gave it to Ryan.
Every time someone grabbed a guitar and serenaded someone else, it made me think of Jed on Hannah’s season.
