Panic! At The Disco Bring Style & Showmanship to Philly with Viva Las Vengeance Tour

Pop Break Live: Panic! at the Disco ‘Viva Las Vengeance Tour’ with Jake Wesley Rogers & MARINA at The Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, PA — Friday September 30, 2022

Panic! At The Disco brought their Viva Las Vengeance Tour to Philadelphia’s Wells Fargo Center on Friday September 30. This 40 date trek started on September in Austin, Texas and ends in Manchester, UK. He is touring in support of his newest album, Viva Las Vengeance, that was released on August 19, 2022. Supporting acts vary from city to city and include MARINA, Jake Wesley Rogers, Beach Bunny and Little Image.

The autumnal night in Philly kicked off with the buzz worthy singer-songwriter Jake Wesley Rogers. His glam stage presence is very reminiscent of Bowie and Elton John. The set included a couple of gems off Pluto, his critically acclaimed EP debut label album which was released last October. One of the highlights was his powerful rendition of “Welcome to the Black Parade,” the classic song by My Chemical Romance. It prompted a sing-along and got the audience up out of their seats. It was the perfect start of what would turn out to be a very memorable show.

Welsh-Greek singer-songwriter Marina (formerly of Marina and The Diamonds) is no stranger to this area. She has a huge following in this Tri-State area. She played The Met in Philly seven months ago and her performance was exceptional. It was no surprise then to see her dedicated fan base cheering her on during the entire set. She started the set off with the one-two punch of “Ancient Dreams in a Modern Land” and “Venus Fly Trap,”  both off her current album which was released in June of 2021. There was a sing-along from some in the audience on the chorus of “I’m a Ruin” and fans screamed out the “rules” on “How to Be a Heartbreaker.”  Marina took a turn on the piano and treated fans to “Kermit the Frog’, a song that hasn’t been played live in 11 years. Other highlights included “Purge the Poison” and fan favorite “Bubble Gum Bitch.”

Having played Philadelphia’s smaller venues in the past, Marina was totally in her element playing to a packed venue that holds 19,000! The crowd response to her set was incredible from start to finish. She’s no “cookie cutter” writer. Marina has a gift of crafting high energy catchy songs and songs whose lyrics just get stuck in your head. There is no doubt that this tour will bring her many new fans who might not have been too familiar with her music.

Panic! at the Disco opened up with the banger “Say Amen ( Saturday Night). ” The first and third sets of the night consisted of their more popular songs and included “Hey Look Ma, I Made it”, “Miss Jackson”, “Nine in the Afternoon” and “Girls/Girls/Boys”. It’s very rare that an audience gets to hear an entire album from front to back, so Philly was treated to the bands newest release Viva Las Vengeance in its entirety. In the past with other artists  that has been met with mixed results. Brendon Urie is such a great showman that the crowd didn’t seem to mind. It didn’t hurt that on the production end of the show things were pretty impressive. It had everything from ramps that extended out to the crowd, awesome visuals that included pyro, confetti, lot’s of lasers and some really colorful cool visuals on stage.

The best was saved for last on the four song encore which included “Death of a Bachelor,” “I Write Sins Not Tragedies”, “Victorious and “High Hopes”. It was a great night of music in Philly. Between the three acts, they really gave us a lesson in showmanship 101!
