The Socially Distanced Podcast was created by two pop culture-obsessed dads during COVID who decided to take their Facebook messenger conversations and turn them into a podcast. In 2022 they brought their friend, a pop culture-obsessed mom to the show, and things got even better!
Join hosts Amanda Rivas and Bill Bodkin as they discuss everything in the world movies, music, sports, television and pop culture — everything keeping them sane in this time of socially distancing. This podcast is powered by ThePopBreak.com.
They say the heart of rock ‘n’ roll is in Cleveland, well this week it’s on Socially Distanced!
Pop Break’s Editor-in-Chief Bill Bodkin is in the host seat this week and is joined by “The Human Star Wars Encyclopedia” Amanda Rivas to discuss the current inductee class for the Rock Hall — which airs live on (where else) Disney+ on Saturday October 19.
Bill and Amanda are joined by two music journalism luminaries — Audra Tracy, the editor-in-chief of The Waster, and longtime friend of the Pop Break, Mike Heyliger of the Detoxicity Podcast, and formerly Radio Free Brooklyn and Pop Blerd.
On the episode they discuss the inductions of Cher, Mary J. Blige, A Tribe Called Quest, The Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Ozzy Osbourne, and Jersey’s own Kool & The Gang. The quartet discuss their shared confusion over why it took so many of these artists this long to get inducted. They also discuss how Mariah Carey, Oasis, Sade and Lenny Kravitz got the snub (but 2025 will likely be most of their years) while the window for Sinead O’Connor and Jane’s Addiction is closing. They also feel really, really old by discussing how Coldplay, John Mayer, 50 Cent, and Gorillaz are now all eligible. They also pick their top “why aren’t they in yet” picks like Cyndi Lauper, Soundgarden, Huey Lewis & The News, Diana Ross, Sublime and more.
In the pre-game Bill, Amanda, Mike and Audra talk about their songs, albums and concerts of the year. You’d be shocked how much Jack White and Willow (Smith) talk there is in this section.
