Pop Break Live: Vampire Weekend ‘Only God Was Above Us Tour Part 2’ with Geese at The Met in Philadelphia on Saturday May 31, 2025
When Vampire Weekend hit the stage for their second night at The Met in Philadelphia on May 31, I realized I was seeing them perform live for the first time in 15 years. The beloved indie darlings that blew up during the New York alternative scene in the early 2000s have only released three albums in that time, but have remained one of the most enduring bands of their time.
Part 2 of their Only God Was Above Us Tour kicked off on Friday in Philadelphia with a massive 36-song setlist. Within the set, the band featured a “Salute to Indie” cover set that shined a light on some of their incredible indie contemporaries, including Phoenix, The Strokes, and Tame Impala. The setlist changed a little on night two of their Philly stop, with notable early classics like “Giving Up the Gun” and “Campus” being added.
The encore covers medley was also given a new spin on night two. After playing the same five songs of their “Salute to Indie” set, the band asked the crowd for requests. Lead singer Ezra Koenig fielded requests from paper signs and phones, and the band did their best to play a wide variety of songs ranging from The Archies’ “Sugar, Sugar” to “Santeria” by Sublime.
The incredibly talented and eclectic Brooklyn jam pop rock band, Geese, opened the show playing songs from their latest album, 3D Country.
