Cosplaying – Luke Kalamar

When it comes to wearing costumes, I was raised with a very DIY mindset. Once I got to elementary school, I rarely dressed up in a store bought costume. I would always choose simple outfits like a bank robber (with a paper bag of money), a mobster, or a ninja with a plastic sword I won at a festival. That mindset followed me into adulthood where I cringe at the idea of spending close to $100 on a costume I will only wear once. Has this prevented me from dressing up like one of my favorite superheroes? Absolutely. But itās never been something I was particularly hung up about.
Itās that mindset that is bringing me into the world of cosplay. For my first ever Comic-Con, my fiancĆ© and I are going as Jimmy Pesto Jr. and Tina Belcher from Bobās Burgers. Not only was my Jimmy costume very easy to put together and cost effective, itās a pairing that is absolutely perfect for our relationship. Both my fiancĆ© and I love Bobās Burgers and the relationship between Jimmy and Tina is one of our favorite aspects. To go as these characters is something Iām very excited about.
I also canāt wait to see some really kickass outfits in person. A big part that fascinates me about any convention is how really talented people wear homemade works of art. I could never, ever get on the level of someone making an Iron Man outfit from scratch, but Iām amazed that people exist out there who can do this. I see pictures of this stuff every single year and I canāt wait to experience it all firsthand.
