7. Insomnia (2002)
While second to last on the list, it’s ironically Nolan’s most underrated movie. When you watch Insomnia, you can easily see why Warner Brothers wanted this guy for Batman. The elements are clearly there, especially in the character Robin Williams plays. Williams always wanted to play a Batman villain, and sadly this is the closest he ever got. It’s an excellent performance, and another reminder of Williams’ equally as good dramatic talent. This is also one of the rare good Al Pacino performances of the 2000’s decade. This is the only Nolan film he did not have a hand in writing. You can tell this was his first foray into the studio system as it feels more like your traditional Hollywood movie, but his mark is no doubt present. This is just a straight up awesome detective story with two great performances.
