4. Celebrity Jeopardy
Celebrity Jeopardy is, without a doubt, my favorite segment in SNL’s history. These were the skits that actually got me into this show. I would watch clips of Darrell Hammond’s Sean Connery riffing with Will Ferrell’s Alex Trebek and always laugh uncontrollably. I have memorized so many lines too. So when a brand new Celebrity Jeopardy aired with Ferrell back as Trebek, I was ecstatic. The sketch did not disappoint either. Hammond was back as Connery belting out “Whore Ads” (Who Reads) and “Le Tits Now” (Let It Snow), Kate McKinnon crushed it as Justin Bieber, and Alec Baldwin was great as Tony Bennett. Those were just the three that started too! Jim Carrey (Matthew McConaughey), Taran Killam (Christoph Waltz), and Norm MacDonald (Burt Reynolds/Turd Ferguson) dropped by as well to much applause. One of the better moments though was Kenan Thompson’s Bill Cosby talking about his favorite drink, and Trebek cutting it short because they “filmed it five months ago.”
I will say though, the entire segment was a mess. Clearly there wasn’t a lot of space to work with and a ton of people to accommodate, and it was very noticeable. The whole segment felt very sloppy. Again, there was a lot going on, so this was expected.
