Aaron Sarnecky: Jack Bauer, 24

Counterterrorism specialist Jack Bauer has gone through a lot of changes since he first debuted on the hit Fox show 24, whether it be different looks, different cities, or different jobs. But one thing that has been constant about Jack Bauer is his devotion to his family. Right from the beginning, it was in full focus when terrorists abducted his wife and daughter in an attempt to blackmail him. That didn’t stop him from going to rescue them, of course. I’ve often said that Taken is essentially a carbon copy of Season 1 of 24. But I digress.

Unfortunately for Jack, his relationship with his daughter, Kim (Elisha Cuthbert), suffered as a result of Season 1 and his work with the Counterterrorist Unit (CTU) in general. But Jack is resilient, and even though Kim constantly turned away from him, he never stopped loving her for a second. This might have been frustrating for fans at times, as Kim is one of the show’s more annoying characters. But Jack’s commitment to Kim is why he’s such a good father. And I suspect many fans will admit they got at least a little emotional when Jack told Kim he was piloting a plane carrying a nuclear bomb.

And though Kim annoyed fans in the earlier seasons, Jack’s efforts to patch things up with her finally succeeded when Kim matured into a responsible adult in Season 7. And as a result, we got to see a glimpse of Jack as an awesome grandfather. It’s not an easy job being a father to a teenage daughter and sort of playing father to all of America, but Jack has proven that hard work pays off. Now if he can only make it back to them in the next incarnation of 24.
