Jennifer Amato: Danny Tanner, Full House

My favorite TV father is Danny Tanner from Full House. I say this is because my own father resembles Danny in a physical and mental way. Also, because my childhood was spent watching TGIF on ABC – as is some of my adulthood spent watching Nick at Nite where Full House is shown again on reruns.

Danny represents a wholesome, All-American father who loves his three girls (I have two sisters) more than anything in the world. He runs a disciplined – some would say strict – household, but he does so to protect his family. He is goofy and nerdy and embarrasses his children – but what father doesn’t? He works hard to keep his family in tact after his wife passed away, and he always has great stories to tell from his segments on “Wake Up, San Francisco!”

All of these characteristics are what make a great father, as I’ve seen evidenced by my own dad. To all of the Danny Tanners out there, Happy Father’s Day – because you are the fathers who truly emulate what it is to be not just a father, but a dad.
