Bill Bodkin: Ned Stark, Game of Thrones
Yes, he only lasted one season, but Ned Stark’s impact has lasted throughout every season of Game of Thrones. In Season 1, when was still alive, he was the paragon of virtue. The man was honor personified, and he was a strong father figure to all his children. He doled out discipline when needed, he broke chops (particularly in episode 1), and he has a man who obviously wanted to prepare his progeny for the upcoming winter. The character he impacted the most, from my viewpoint, is Jon Snow. In fact, you can call him his father’s son – he did the right thing (allying with The Wildings, and letting them passed the wall), but didn’t play the ‘game of thrones’ to curry political favor – hence his bloody, terrible death at the hands of those who claim him to be a traitor. But, also he’s kept the mystery of Jon’s mother, which has sparked many a rumor, that will undoubtedly impact the entire series. Sean Bean as perfect as Ned Stark – regal, tough, and a man who talks softly but carries a big stick. He’s a man’s man, the perfect kind of TV father.
