There are two elements that excite me about this movie: Michael Fassbender and Aaron Sorkin (screenwriter). While I’m certainly intrigued, there’s just something about the trailer that wasn’t enough to vault it into my top ten. First off, I’m not a big Danny Boyle fan. The guy is highly overrated, and for a movie like this, he’s just not a fit here. Secondly, Seth Rogen as the crucial role of Steve Wozniak turns me off beyond belief. If you’ve read me on the site for a while, and listened to our podcasts, you know I’m no fan of Seth Rogen. This feels like the studio desperately trying to convince us Seth Rogen can play drama, just as Jonah Hill did. The problem with that is Seth Rogen can’t even do comedy like Jonah Hill. When I watch this trailer, it looks like a great script that got watered down. What a waste of Michael Fassbender. And furthermore, and I know I’m about to piss off Apple fans, I’m really over this story. It’s unfortunate the Ashton Kutcher Jobs movie jumped to the front of the line and kind of ruined this. I obviously recognize the impact and importance this man had on history, but we all know the story inside and out. I’m intrigued by Sorkin and Fassbender, but that’s it.
Oscar Alert! If the movie lives up to its potential, it will be recognized in most major categories. The two to keep an eye on though are obviously Best Actor (Fassbender) and Best Screenplay (Sorkin)
