34. Dawn of the Dead – 2004
The Little Girl
Very rarely is a horror remake better than the original, but I’m on Team Remake because 2004’s Dawn of the Dead is a non-stop, balls-to-the-wall horror flick. This film has runner zombies and I don’t care what anyone says, those are scarier than the ones we are accustomed to. We get our first glimpse of these speedy creatures when our main character, Ana, and her husband wake up in the morning. A neighborhood girl has entered their house to feed on flesh. The image of this girl, caked in shadow, is frightening because you know what she is and what she’s there to do but it doesn’t stop you from jumping out of your seat when she steps into the light and makes a run for her prey. As she sinks her teeth into the husband, we know s**t has officially hit the fan and this starts one of the most insane and bloody opening sequences in movie history.
