Titan Championship Wrestling concluded its double shot weekend with its Rise of the Titans event in Ocean Gate, NJ. The previous night’s Goddesses of War would be a hard act to follow, but TCW brought about another stellar showing. Here are some highlights….
Rise of the Titans kicked off with the The TCW Middleweight Championship being defended by the Trust Fund’s Johnny Jager against fan favorite Violence. Violence made a remarkable entrance to the ring jumping into the back of a pickup truck with his fans. I’ll say it again. The kids LOVE violence. Even some of my students like to ask about him and can’t wait to see him in the ring. Violence would deliver inside the ring as well as he was able to nearly put the champ Jager away, but unfortunately a timely interference by Jared Silberkleit (manager of the Trust Fund) on a megaphone would prevent Violence from winning the title. Let’s get this rematch going!
Our Goddesses of War Match for the evening saw the Champion, The Notorious Mimi (#Mimi3belts ) take on Christina Marie in a heck of a bout. Mimi came to the ring with more hardware than Home Depot, as she brought all three of her titles to the ring.
On the other side of the ring, the challenger, Marie is definitely a power player in the women’s division and gives me a lot of Shayna Baszler vibes. This was another really good match. I know we have been very pro Mimi here, but the resume doesn’t lie. Not only is she a triple champion, but every time we see her in the ring she is that much better. Stand Alone Wrestling Founder and CEO Chad Minnes even adds, “Mimi even works harder on ring setup and break down than most. From boards to frame to canvas, the entire time.”
Lots of fast paced strikes and kicks from Mimi, and power by Marie. These opposing styles worked great and made for one hell of a match. Unfortunately for Marie, the Goddesses Champion could not be stopped. Your winner, and STILL Goddesses Champion, The Notorious Mimi.
That was my front runner for match of the night at Rise of the Titans until I saw KC Navarro, Rhett Titus, and Stephen Gibki in a triple threat match. This match was excellent. Gibki played the pompous Jock Heel to a T, yet executed all of his spots in the ring flawlessly. I was very impressed. Rhett played the veteran making everyone else in the match look good, and he did just that. Navarro as always stole the show with a flurry of frankensteiners and hurricanranas. I had several people even approach us asking, “Who is that Guy?” My Answer. “The Future.”
The story of the match saw more of a team up between KC and Rhett which worked amazingly. I would’ve sworn these two teamed up many times before. KC would ultimately bless the crowd with another W, and this is the way it should’ve gone down. Personally, KC gets my vote to be next in line to take on Mr. Cody Rhodes, someone he has had his eye on for years now…
Another Match that brought down the house was (He Came in like a..) Wrecking Ball Legursky vs. the equally powerful “The Big Kaiju” O’Shay Edwards with his mouthpiece Benjamin King in his corner. This was a great big man King Kong vs. Godzilla type that was awesome. WB took a rare L in this one after a massive power bomb by Edwards. I’ll say this. Dude is strong.
Post match Travis Jacobs would get involved as Benjamin King would announce the forming of The Division, a new faction. I will hopefully be speaking with The Division later next month….
Real quick I would like to send my well wishes to the super charismatic Jaylen Brandyn from Waves and Curls who went out of his tag match with an untimely injury.
Our main event for Rise of the Titans certainly blew the doors off the place, as we saw current CZW Champion Joe Gacy take on veteran Danny Demanto in a Doorway to Hell match. This match had a very interesting stipulation as in order to win the match you would have to put your opponent through a door, AND additionally pin them for the three count afterwards. I’ve never seen anything quite like it.
A little backstory here, but Demanto had been goading Gacy on social media to bring and defend the CZW Championship – something that has eluded Demanto in his career. Gacy didn’t bite, however his wife Aimee brought the belt instead! I have to admit I never saw that one coming.
The two went through multiple doors during a pretty vicious, hard hitting match. After nearly putting Gacy away, Demanto straight up grabbed the ref and threw him right through a corner table out of frustration. All hell’s breaking loose. A new ref came in as Demanto was able to steal a win with the new ref to become….the NEW? CZW champion?
Demanto celebrated much like Shawn Michaels winning the title, but the other official came back to restart the match saying it wasn’t the right official.
This time around Gacy picked up the win to retain his title and ride his current wave of momentum. There’s a big asterisks here, but Wikipedia and Demanto himself are continually touting the big CZW title win on social media. If anything this was fantastic storytelling.
Up next for TCW will be the Broken By Design event at Ocean Gate Volunteer EMS on September 12th. Tickets are available now at: https://www.titan-
