Wrestlemania 31 Predictions Panel

Sting vs. Triple-H

Bill Bodkin: This isn’t going to be like when Triple H fought Scott Steiner or Goldberg — he’s putting Sting over. Why? Because Sting’s the legend that deserves a big Wrestlemania win and I think everyone realizes it.

Steven Miller: I am hoping, praying, begging management to let Real Estate Steve Borden win this match and propel him into the position of Raw General Manager. But, just as Vince shoves Montreal 1997 down our throats any chance he can, he just loves to have his mouthpieces shout out that he destroyed Ted Turner and their Wrasslin’ promotion. This is one more, and possibly last, chance for him to do it again. Given their age and knowing what they can’t do, these two elderly performers won’t go more than 15 minutes and I somehow see the newly inducted Kevin Nash getting involved in some way. Can’t you just picture him coming out with an NWO or WCW Outsiders shirt on and making Sting think he’s going to help and then going all Cliq on him to help HHH win? Vince’s son-in-law will win.

Jeff Parsons: No way that Sting doesn’t win here. The real question is if the match is any good, and I think both of these guys have enough pride and ability to make it happen. I’m expecting a very old-school match where they both hit all their gimmicks and they leave the crowd happy.

Anthony Toto: Before I even make a prediction, could WWE please use Sting’s crow entrance from WCW when he enters the ring? The song was used to promote WWE 2K15 so it seems like a realistic request for such a historic moment. Hell, even use his second iconic theme song – Metallica – Seek And Destroy (Woodstock ’99). For the record, Sting is my all-time favorite wrestler. I will forever cherish my collection of Sting t-shirts, action figures, and masks. This man opened my eyes to the thrilling dynamics of professional wrestling and I have closely followed his career since 1996.

Honestly, wrestling truly lost me when WCW folded in 2001. I couldn’t stand the ‘Invasion’ angle after WWE buried some of my favorite wrestlers like DDP and Booker T. When Stephanie McMahon cuts demeaning promos about WCW using distorted WWE propaganda, it’s a clear display of Vince McMahon stroking his ego all these years later. WWE should’ve rebooted WCW and kept it as a separate brand for the sake of maintaining a healthy competition. If you look at Nitro’s ratings from “the dark era” of 2001, they either surpass or equal Raw’s current ratings.

Anyway, I appreciate WWE for actually respecting Sting’s legacy by giving him a solid push before he competes in his first Wrestlemania. We witnessed some incredible nostalgic moments like him mysteriously entering the ring and protecting top faces like Ziggler and Orton. I also won’t ignore Sting’s body of work in TNA, which was solid until his final injury plagued year. He looks extremely healthy and fit for a 55-year-old professional wrestler. Triple H has absolutely nothing to gain from a victory. Give us loyal WCW fans one last time to celebrate “The Franchise.” Winner: Sting

Kenny Pete: WHO CARES WHO WINS THIS MATCH?! BOTH GUYS ARE FOSSILS! THIS IS A TOTAL FARCE! DON’T INSULT US!

Michael Dworkis: It’s going to Sting. You don’t have a marquee match like this, bringing a legend like Sting into WWE and then book him to lose. Triple H does not need the win, the storyline does not need The Game to win. This is about one last hurrah for the man who never broke ranks, who remained loyal until the bitter end. Winner: Sting

Jon Lister: I keep on forgetting this match is happening. They keep on saying it’s a dream match and maybe it is, but not in a way they want it to be. I don’t remember the last time Sting wrestled and it’s been about 10 months since HHH has had a match and maybe what, 8 years since a WM victory. Look for that trend to continue as Sting is the obvious choice in this one.

Evi Dworkis: Who cares who wins, these guys are both legends. Let it just be an awesome match!
