98. Tusk – 2014
“The Reveal”
Much like The Human Centipede, Tusk creates a monster that is medically and physically disgusting. When Michael Parks drugs Justin Long and performs surgery on him to transform him into a human walrus, you know you’re intrigued and fearful. The scene begins with some eerie music playing over the sounds of Long’s screams. Director Kevin Smith then shows close ups of the monster, not showing it in full just yet. After a brief dialogue by Parks, who states, “A walrus never cries,” the camera focuses on Long’s walrus, AKA Mr. Tusk. When I saw this, I laughed. But I didn’t laugh out of humor but out of uncomfortableness. This creature is horrifying and the image of knowing there is a human in that skin will stick in your mind forever.
