Top 10 Episodes From The 1992 X-Men Animated Series

9. Enter Magneto (Season 1)

I mentioned before how much I adore the Professor X/Magneto relationship, and this episode gives us the full back story.  The plot is pretty standard, as Magneto attempts to take over a missile base.  It’s the little touches though that make this among the best of the series.  Not only does it set up their conflict, but it lays the foundation for the Wolverine/Sabretooth feud, which permeates throughout the whole show, leading to one of the greatest Wolverine lines of all time:

“How come we’re supposed to trash your old enemy, but we got to go easy on mine.” –Wolverine

Awesome!  In fact, this episode is full of incredible dialogue:

“Better that we die on our feet than live on our knees.” -Magneto

Oh, yeah.  Beast also manages to get a nice little arc.  After being caught in the previous episode, Magneto wants to release him, but he refuses.  He wants to see his trial play out for the good of mutant/human kind.  It sums up Beast in a nut shell.  The music is also epic.  This was the third episode of the series, and perfectly sets up the primary conflicts: Professor X Vs. Magneto.  Wolverine Vs. Sabretooth.  And most important of all, Humans Vs. Mutants.
