World Title Match: Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns
Bill Bodkin: This is such a tough call. The new Brock contract makes this one tough to call. I know people think that Heyman will turn on Brock and help Roman win — I saw why? What’s the motive? Well, if anyone can sell it, it’s Heyman. I think Brock goes over in a brutal match, but somehow Rollins ends with the title by Tuesday.
Steven Miller: Congratulations, Brock! It took you over a year to decide to go for the easy, fun money. I don’t blame you. At 38 and after surviving a near-death illness, you have every right to do that and I don’t blame you. If this contract is anything like your old one, you will only have to wrestle on three PPVs and appear on about twelve Raws for a $5 million salary. Good for you. But, will you do a job? Should you do the job in what has surprisingly turned into one of the most controversial matches in company history. The audience has turned on Reigns, yet Vince has stuck by him. Reigns allegedly had a positive drug test and Vince stuck by him. So, will Vince take the belt off the Beast? One scenario is: Yes, Reigns wins. He gets his Wrestlemania moment and Rollins cashes in on Monday night. Number 2 scenario: Reigns wins and Rollins cashes in at Mania and the future begins. Number 3 scenario: Lesnar wins, but is bloodied and weak. Rollins cashes in and the future begins. Number 4: Lesnar wins and Rollins continues to try to find the right place and time to cash in against him after Mania. Number 5: Lesnar wins. Rollins tries to cash in and Lesnar F-5’s him into oblivion at Mania. I’m going with number 5. Reigns and Rollins are not the ones who should beat the man who put the one in twenty-one and one and has a brand new contract in which, I suspect, he made sure he keeps the belt for a little while longer.
Jeff Parsons: This is going to be a mess. I think the match itself will be excellent, but I also think the WWE is so scared it won’t be that it’ll be overbooked to Russo-levels. I look for Heyman to turn on Brock, side with Reigns, but have Brock win in the end, completing the double-turn. Brock walks out as a babyface champ, Reigns the monster heel with Heyman as his mouthpiece, and then Rollins spoils it all by cashing in and taking the title from Brock. Like I said, a mess. I can’t wait.
Anthony Toto: “Sufferin’ succotash…Brock Lesnar is a MONSTAR!” – Roman Reigns
Brock Lesnar resigning with WWE completely changed the dynamics for this match. In reality, this man is the most accomplished athlete to ever step foot in the WWE ring. Let’s put it this way, he announced his new contract on ESPN Sportscenter. When does ESPN ever cover professional wrestling? Lesnar ended The Undertaker’s streak and I’d hate to see his momentum come to a sudden halt after a few Superman punches. His invincibility is one of the few bright spots out of this entire Wrestlemania build.
Roman Reigns is the modern day “Diesel” and it’s ironic how Kevin Nash will enter the Hall of Fame this year. The timing is impeccable. Once the Looney Tunes promos started kicking in, fans sensed how Vince McMahon was trying to push another Cena-like face for the next five-years. Rather than promote a proven commodity, WWE rushed Reigns’ development despite some growing pains and they potentially cost him a lengthy face run in the future.
After awarding Brock Lesnar with a huge sum of money, will they really allow Roman Reigns to defeat him? There are already rumors of The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar for next year’s Wrestlemania in Dallas Texas. If this match actually happens, I imagine WWE would fill the 100,000 seats in Cowboys Stadium. I expect Brock Lesnar to win this match while also making Reigns look STRONG! Reigns might even benefit from a loss. It would bring his character back to earth and he will probably receive another chance to contend in the near future.
Will Seth Rollins cash in his Money In The Bank briefcase? His career-defining match at Royal Rumble proved his worthiness to dethrone Brock Lesnar. I’d say there is a 30% chance of him cashing in at Wrestlemania. If this happens, Triple H is obviously gaining more power over the booking decisions. For the sake of dramatic storytelling, I’d love to see Rollins make history. Winner: BROCK LESNAR (Paul Heyman voice)
Kenny Pete: Just like Brock Lesnar killed his Wrestlemania match with Goldberg many years ago, Lesnar did a 180 degree turn & completely Saved this Wrestlemania ™ match by announcing that he has re-signed a multi year deal with The Ent. Immediately, this changes the entire dynamic of the match & they have multiple options to go with for the overall story and outcome of the match that can be very successful. Instead of going into the match knowing that Lesnar is leaving the company & Romain Reigns is the heir apparent to the throne, we know that they can go either way with the outcome of the match & still draw money with both guys down the road. Lesnar will be Overwhelmingly cheered, Roman will have very vocal detractors underneath the screams of the Ladies & Children (sound familiar?). I think the company is going to use this event to crown Roman Reigns the new champion & face of the company, I just hope they turn him heel in the process because he needs to be universally hated before he can be universally loved. It worked for his “Bruddah” Flex Kavana at one time, it would work the same for him.
Michael Dworkis: This one is a real head-scratcher. Is WWE confident Reigns can carry the title? Or has Brock’s renewal changed any plans for him to drop the title? The real question is, does anyone care? Roman Reigns vs. Brock Lesnar does not feel like a WrestleMania main event to me. Reigns was not built up correctly, the push was shoved down our throats, and based on his matches in the past few months, I question how he could be in the same ring as Brock. Hell, I said it before and I’ll say it again. I could believe Seth Rollins able to have a match with Lesnar. I can’t believe Reigns can. This gripe does not matter at all. For that matter, WWE knows they will have a booing arena should this force-fed gimmick go over. Winner: Seth Rollins
Wait… did I just type Seth Rollins? YES I DID. This is the year we see Mr. Money in the Bank cash in at WrestleMania and WIN. Roman Reigns somehow goes over Brock, and after an irate Brock destroys Reigns, we get Rollins rushing down, cashing in, and taking it.
Jon Lister: While I believe this match will be better than what most people are fearing, I will join the ranks and believe (that) Reigns is WM main event ready, yet. Still giving him the benefit of the doubt that eventually he will, but it should not be his time. Which is why I was relieved to read Lesnar
has resigned with WWE and as a result, will be holding the title until he next appears at Summerslam…. 2020.
Evi Dworkis: *Yawn* I predict lots of German Suplexes, Spears, and F5s. Also probably chants of “boring” from the crown at some point. I will pick Brock Lesnar for the win, if only to give Paul Heyman one more thing to awesomely brag about in his promos.
